The experience
See the east of Dhofar unfold in stages: a valley at Wadi Darbat, mountain horizons at Jabal Samhan, baobab trees inland and the trading town of Mirbat beside the sea.
Begin in the Wadi Darbat area, where a short walk and photo stops introduce the valley’s changing water scenery. Khareef rains transform the hillsides, while waterfalls and greenery look different outside the wet season. Continue into the mountains for the Jabal Samhan viewpoint. The escarpment gives the day its sense of scale when visibility is clear; mist can hide the view, so the mountain stop is about the landscape and conditions you encounter rather than a guaranteed panorama.
Around Wadi Hinna, look for the baobabs’ broad trunks and spreading branches before continuing to Mirbat. The town’s old harbour surroundings and historic buildings tell another part of Dhofar’s coastal story. A castle interior is a separate admission arrangement. The final coastal dune stops bring sand and sea into the same scene before the return journey. This approximately eight-hour route allows a broader day than the half-day tour, with several drives between outdoor stops and lunch paid separately.

Your tour itinerary
Hotel pickup · private 4WD
Meet your guide at your agreed Salalah, Taqah or Mirbat pickup point and begin the full-day route.
Wadi Darbat · valley and water scenery
Walk at the selected valley stops and photograph the water and rock scenery. A boat ride is optional and depends on operation and the day’s schedule.
Jabal Samhan viewpoint
Continue to the escarpment viewpoint for a mountain stop. Low cloud and mist can limit the panorama.
Wadi Hinna · baobab trees
Pause to see the trees and hear about this distinctive pocket of Dhofar’s landscape. Follow the guide’s access route and leave the vegetation undisturbed.
Mirbat · historic coastal town
Explore the town’s coastal surroundings and old harbour setting. Any castle visit follows the agreed admission and opening arrangements.
Coastal dunes and return
Stop at the coastal dunes named in your final route, then return to the arranged hotel. These are coastal sands, separate from the Empty Quarter desert safari.
Allow approximately eight hours including road travel. Mountain visibility, waterfall flow and access can change the sequence. The exact coastal dune location is confirmed with your route.
