Follow the Balcony Walk above Oman’s Grand Canyon, where a narrow mountain trail brings you close to the scale and depth of Jebel Shams.
The drive inland from Muscat climbs into the Hajar Mountains and reaches the walking area near Al Khitaym. The W6 trail follows the canyon wall towards the abandoned settlement of As Sab. Along the way, rock layers, steep drops and traces of former cultivation reveal how people lived in this mountain landscape. Your guide sets the turnaround point around your pace, daylight and trail conditions.
This is a hiking day rather than a drive to a viewpoint alone. The trail has uneven stone, exposed sections and a return ascent, so comfort with heights and sustained walking matters. A full walk to the village, any continuation towards the hidden pool and extra mountain stops must fit the agreed day. The Balcony Walk does not summit Jebel Shams. Meals and the exact Muscat departure and return times are confirmed with the route.
