A late-evening Dahab departure brings you to the mountain starting area for checks and the local guide’s briefing. The ascent requires sustained walking in darkness, with a steep stone-step section near the top. Wait in the summit area for sunrise over the surrounding ridges when visibility permits; temperatures can feel very different from Dahab’s coast, especially during the stationary wait.
After descending, visit the areas of St Catherine’s Monastery open to visitors that morning. This remains a living religious community with its own worship schedule and visitor route, not unrestricted museum access. Guiding inside follows the monastery’s rules; the mountain-guide inclusion does not authorise an organised interior tour. The museum room, food, hot drinks and camel hire are separate extras. Allow about twelve hours overnight into the next day, with the exact pickup date and expected return clearly confirmed.
