The experience
See three different sides of Aswan in one outing: the High Dam’s engineering, the ancient granite quarry and the island sanctuary of Philae.
At the High Dam, your guide introduces the project that transformed the river and created Lake Nasser. The quarry stop then takes the story back to ancient stoneworking: the Unfinished Obelisk remains attached to the granite, making the scale of the intended monument and the work involved in cutting it easier to understand. Expect exposed paths and uneven rock rather than a flat indoor museum visit.
Continue to the marina for the crossing to Agilkia, where the rescued Philae monuments now stand. Walk through the Temple of Isis complex, looking at its courts, columns and carved scenes while hearing how the island temples were moved away from rising water. This is a daytime visit, with time to appreciate the reliefs and the river setting; the sound and light performance is a separate evening outing. Allow around four hours, with the final order and boat fare confirmed in your package.
