Pair the Egyptian Museum’s Tahrir collection with the citadel above Cairo for a day moving from ancient objects to the city’s later architectural history.
At the Egyptian Museum, follow a guided selection through the displays currently on view. The building and its collection remain a distinct visit from GEM near Giza and NMEC in Fustat; famous objects should not be assumed present simply because an older itinerary once listed them here. Agree collection priorities around the museum’s current galleries.
After a lunch break at your own expense, continue to Saladin Citadel and Muhammad Ali Mosque. The mosque’s domes, courtyard and interior visitor areas provide the focus, with city views from permitted viewpoints when visibility allows.
